I missed out on doing Anthony’s Halloween Creatures tag last year so I was really happy to see that he has done 2.0 version for 2018! Although Destiny didn’t tag me, I obviously had to join in ❤ As you’ll see from my answers, I don’t read a lot of horror so my answers are very un-Halloweeny lol

WITCH — a magical character or book:
Children of Blood and Bone is one of my favourite magical books and one of my favourite books of 2018. I really like Tomi’s magic system especially the different magic clans and how she was able to use a fantasy setting to talk about the real violence that black people are facing in our own world. In case anyone was wondering, I’m a Connector!
WEREWOLF — the perfect book to read at night:
The Bear and the Nightingale is the perfect book to read on a cold night when you’re snuggled into your duvet with/without a hot drink. It’s not just the beautiful cover that gives off that feeling, but the rich atmosphere throughout the entire book captures you within that wintery night feel.
FRANKENSTEIN — a book that truly shocked you:
This one took a little bit of thought but Under the Pendulum Sun definitely fits the criteria. The entire book is written is a super eery, gothic way that made me feel really on edge whilst I was reading it and I did not expect that ending at all. It was surprisingly horrifying in a way I wasn’t anticipating but really enjoyable.
THE DEVIL — a dark, evil character:
I mean… the title should probably give you an indication that something wicked and evil is coming but if you missed the warning then I am here to tell you that there is definitely something dark and evil lurking around in the murky Victorian streets of London in The Wicked Cometh!
GRIM REAPER — a character that never should have died:
I love how everyone doing this tag has to try and answer this question without giving any spoilers. River of Teeth ruined my poor little heart in many ways because of character death/s that I didn’t want to happen!
ZOMBIE — a book that made you “hungry” for more:
I didn’t read Illuminae until this year and the minute I finished it I wanted to run back to the library and grab Gemina. In using the food/hunger analogy, I literally devoured these books. The Illuminae Files is definitely one of my favourite series for so many reasons and I loved everything about it.
GARGOYLE — a character that you would protect at all cost:
Mateo in They Both Die at the End is such a soft boy and I wanted to do everything I could to protect him. I wanted Rufus and Mateo to live their best little lives, but obviously, Adam Silvera was out to crush all of our hearts with this book and there was no way to protect either of them – a hard life lesson right there.
VAMPIRE — a book that sucked the life out of you:
Holy frak did this just… kill me at the slowest possible speed. I am not about this book at all and, although it is TINY, it took me forever to read because it was so boring.
GHOST — a book that still haunts you:
See above. See also: most hated book of all time.
DEMON — a book that really scared you:
I read The Exorcist when I was about 15/16 as I was too scared to watch the film. I thought maybe if I read the book it would ‘demystify’ the film in a way but it just creeped me out even more. No thanks to anything exorcist related.
SKELETON — a character you have a bone to pick with:
Replicating answers but HONESTLY MATEO WHAT THE F WERE YOU THINKING?! The ending of this made me yell so hard and I want to drag Mateo out of death to ask him WHY? WHY WHY WHY?!
MUMMY — a book you would preserve throughout time:
I honestly think that THUG is a 21st-century classic and should be preserved for future generations. I hope that by the time they come to read it, the state of our world will have improved and they’ll look at what life was like for black Americans and be surprised at how different it is from their lives. That’s the hope anyway.
CREEPY DOLL — a cover too scary to look at:
I mean… do I have to say anything else?
THE MONSTER MASH — tag your friends!
